Home-Start Surrey to showcase our work with families

On 6th October 2016, Home-Start Surrey will be premiering its new documentary film at an early evening event at the World Wildlife Fund Headquarters in Woking.  The film, part of Home-Start Surrey's Building Better Futures campaign, showcases the difference that our family support charity is making to the lives of families and children living in communities throughout Surrey.

There will also be an exhibition of observational photo-essays that depict individual local family stories.  The photo-essays describe the inspirational journeys that these families have made with the help of their local Home-Start volunteer and the positive outcomes of our early intervention approach.

If you are working for an organisation that may be interested in helping to support Home-Start's work in Surrey in some way, please apply for a ticket to the event by emailing admin@homestartsurrey.org.  You'll hear more about the impact that Home-Start is having throughout the county and discover ways in which you and your organisation can support us to expand our reach to even more parents and children who need us.

The Building Better Futures event is funded with generous support from the Lottery's Awards For All programme, and Sally Marks, Chairman of Surrey County Council and Patron of Home-Start East Surrey. Watch our Building Better Futures event trailer http://homestartsurrey.org/event/

FRIMLEY GREEN CARNIVAL SUNDAY 10TH JULY 2016

Staff and volunteers of Home-Start Surrey Heath ran an information stand and fundraising activities at Frimley Green Carnival on the 10th July.  This was also used as a volunteer recruitment drive/awareness. Thanks to everyone who helped on the day.

REDWOOD SCHOOL

Home-Start Surrey Heath were nominated and chosen by Redwood School in Camberley as their chosen charity.  The Scheme Manager and Co-ordinator were invited to talk to the Year 6 students about Home-Start and their work in the local area.  The Year 6's then had to come up with ideas on how to "grow your pound".  The staff were then invited to attend the school's summer fair on the 9th July and run an information stall.  The children were an inspiration with their ideas and enthusiasm of fundraising - running, amongst others, a popcorn stand, throwing wet sponges, cupcake baking and selling.  One little girl came up to the stand and said "thank you for letting us raise funds for you, we've had so much fun".  It was also lovely that 3 families who'd had support from us in the past, came up to us to say hello with their now school age children and updated us on their progress, following Home-Start support, which they'd all found extremely positive.  Thank you to Redwood School and the fabulous children and staff.

FUNDRAISER

A big thanks to our volunteers, trustees and supporters who have held a coffee morning/fundraiser for us so far this year to raise vital funds for us.  We're very grateful to Olive, Mary and Trish who have kindly organised a fundraiser in their own homes.  If you'd like to arrange your own fundraising event for us, please let us know - coffee morning, afternoon tea, cheese & wine evening - or any other sort of event, please contact us.

Volunteers also manned and information stall and sold flower arrangements (kindly made by Sue) and hand painted glass jars (by Steph F) - thank you all for your help and support.
